Awaken Through Attending to the Body

Some of us are more connected to our bodies than others.

With our directive to reach for a better feeling thought, some readers may not always call up taking action with our bodies to raise energy and awareness.

Do we recall through our day what soothing is available through our wondrous physical structures? For those of us who spend much time in our heads, let’s remember to use our physical beings to reduce our suffering.

Getting Frisky II, 24 x 30, $595

Tool #1 Simple Moving

Let’s remember that stretching and walking about helps our brains reboot when stuck. Marla discovered the value of distracting herself with some movement. No she was not so called “procrastinating.” Shifting her focus produced results for her. M “let go” in the form of a walk around her neighborhood, breathing in some woodsy air and before too long a solution came to her.

Tool #2 Therapeutic Massage

David seeks out therapeutic massage to get relief from all kinds of stress. He gets worried and he acquires bodily aches and pains from the way he makes his living. D utilizes this tool regularly to benefit his whole being: body, mind spirit. Certainly, he can attest that he accesses a more receptive mode after he leaves his session!

Tool #3 Jin Shin Jyutsu

Cary knows some Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ). Recently on a walk she felt draggy and short of breath. Up popped the memory that an easy available way to assist breathing is to put the pad of the thumb over the nail of the ring finger. She did this on both hands as she walked along. Wow it helped a lot. She recommends giving it a try to experience the full impact.

Another way to help oneself with JSJ, take a rest break and go through your fingers one at a time. It is recommended to take two minutes on each finger. Breathe. We might feel this more profoundly if we are laying down but it will work in whatever position with which we want to experiment.

To get a refresher rebooting on a whole other level, we can seek out a JSJ practitioner and have a full session for about an hour. Most experience this as deeply relaxing—at least—and some who arrive with a bodily pain leave without it.

Take Away Message:

When we want to feel better, we can seek out release in movement, receiving touch and harmonizing our being’s energy. Many tools accessible to us—look for additional ideas in future posts.

Importance of Reaching for Better Feeling

We wield our personal power as we reach for thoughts that feel better. People can live a more satisfying life as we awaken to what we feel and lift out spirits if we notice a dip. We want to pursue thoughts that lead us out of unhappiness.

Keanna does look for reasons to feel better as she goes through her day. Sure, when she feels quite chipper, she coasts and basks in those good vibrations. If she notices she has dipped a bit, she seeks an improved emotional state.

On the Trail, 9 x 12, $150

In her practice our heroine offers sessions to harmonize the energy and most clients experience one of deep relaxation and improved mood.

The Story

Marguerite sought out Keanna for assistance. After both the first and second sessions K observed M appearing very relaxed and with an open and happier countenance.

In the third visit, M came in looking, discouraged and unhappy. This dear woman arrived in notable discomfort. Also, she had discerned “what she had,” researched a possible remedy and determined she would hate pursuing it. Marguerite experienced both physical and mental anguish.

Soon after beginning, Keanna inquired whether M noticed her relief from past session immediately or was it stronger the next day.  This client did not recall feeling any relief at all.

Toward when the meeting would have ended, M said she needed to get up and then stood. Keanna asked whether Marguerite felt less in pain now, and M commented that the pain was gone. However, K noticed this seemed unimportant to M.

Instead, this recipient seemed to put focus on the thoughts suffering of the condition and its possible remedy.  Soon, she paid her fee, left, and then the next day emailed she would discontinue the meetings.

K sees opportunity for greater use of personal power in this story.

  1. Marguerite did not notice the relief from the sessions both past and present.
  2. Instead, M put focus suffering both of the diagnosis and from eating the diet she thinks she needs to heal.
  3. We do not need or want to make the thoughts of unwanted more important than the improved feelings of this moment.
  4. We can choose to enjoy this immediate amelioration, this now moment of better feeling.
  5. We have a bright future where wanted solutions can flow to us!

We each may have an account when we reviewed what scares us and what we don’t want instead of allowing something good in the present. Want to share how good it felt to give more mental air time to what we enjoy right now? We all can relate and love that inspiration.

Receptive Mode

Have you heard the expression “Let it go?” How about “I turn this over to Source Energy?” With anything we want, Source can deliver when we release the details of “how” and “when” to this Higher Power.

Can we find that place to be happy anyway in advance of what we want? Sure we can. Each of us can live a life grateful, pleased, content more and more of the time. For those who appreciate through their day it is a routine mode, i.e. the receptive mode.

Getting Frisky, 24 x 30, $595

Below illustrates the power of shifting to receptive mode:

Place to Live

Carolena rented in the downstairs of someone’s home. After a good long run of living there, the landlord informed her they were going to sell the property and she would need to move out. At first C did not have a specific deadline and could use the months to start her search.

This heroine felt frightened at first and under pressure to find a suitable dwelling (even though the deadline was not imminent.) She set about checking listings, making calls and looking at properties.

In the beginning she found herself putting attention on the difficulty of the search, on prices she found daunting, and other aspects unwanted.

One day with a friend she ventured to look at a property quite a distance from her first choice area to reside. At one point in 90 degree heat she got lost, boiled over with upset. Got out of the car in a strange driveway, waved her arms and expressed her frustration, so upset. Oh dear she realized she wanted to find calm and self mastery.

That evening reading a spiritually uplifting work, she read about a man who had been run over in his car by an eighteen-wheel truck. His friend, a minister, comes to visit him and sees the accident victim, suffering horribly, does not care if he survives.

The visitor says, “We will pray you to live!”

Flash in that moment Carolena got this clarity: C had to turn over the housing search to Source Energy. She would delegate the “how”; she surrendered.

The next morning she searched the online ads and continued to do so. She went about her day relaxed. In about three weeks she found a very interesting ad, close by at a price she could afford. As she asked the landlord her key questions, she got positive responses. OMG! Here it is!

Likely, each of us has examples from our own lives. Please share: We are so inspired reading one another’s miracles!

Relaxed Intention

Isn’t it great to experience a good mood often? We feel content, hopeful, frisky, or happy. (Sometimes more than one at once!) We flow through life, steering toward upbeat feeling, and we wake up to what we want.

What is the most important part of going for what we want? Yes, clarity is extremely helpful. And we learn to be happy whether or not we have that “want” right this red, hot minute. We don’t know how this desire will show up for us—and we let that go. What is our focus? Enjoying this moment, feeling the ease of living.

Jamilla’s Tale

Dream Emerging, 24 x 30, Acrylic with Texture on Canvas, $395

Jamilla remains aware of her mood and intends to uplift herself when needed. She watched an online video on Intention one day last week. In that recording the speaker, Madam Y, was ecstatically declaring the importance of consciously formulating intentions. Wow this woman on stage was almost jumping up and down.

J’s personal response: she smiled to herself and thought Madam Y was advocating the use of way too much energy. (It made Jamilla want to take a nap 😊—just kidding.)  When we know what we don’t want, we realize what we do want—in the flow.

As stated above this dear woman agreed with the speaker on a critical component—release knowing when and how. Let it go and keep going.

Our heroine had been playing on internet dating, and it impressed her how many men were saying hello to start relating. Meanwhile, this particular group resided  at a significant distance for her location, spoke about “finding the one” and “loving forever”, and often did not respond to questions. J sighed.

The experience felt surreal and unsatisfying. Did any of these men have the inner preparation and depth of kindness to accepting the warts of the other as those became revealed?

Pop in Jamilla’s head: what she wanted was a man to meet in person, feel some chemistry and take her out to a meal. She moseyed along doing things that made her happy.

To her delight, a message from a fellow in her city came into a dating site in box within hours of her clarity: would she like to go out to eat with him?

Separately, she had wanted to try a new restaurant recommended as excellent. The man agreed to go there!

Ta da! Without dramatic intentional effort, our star attracted at least a chunk of what she wanted.

Do you have some illustrations of this phenomena? Please share how this works for you! We all love to be inspired!

Acceptance over Self Blame

So many have the cultural training to blame oneself. Most people have habit of thought to wield blame in some way—either blaming some other institution, person or situation or taking blame on his or herself.

Even among people who are on the growth path, the mechanism of self-blame can operate – in ways less easy to spot.

View at Graves Mill, 16 x 20, $475

Karla had an impulse to assist a friend. The friend accepted the offer on a message to an old-fashioned phone machine. Oh my, Karla did not retrieve the missive in proper timing—and the gift was not offered this time.

K has done some inner work and goes down that self blame pattern of thought much less frequently than earlier in her life. Yes she avoided doing major dramatic apologies or self-flagellation.  Hmm our star found herself with a dipping mood. She noticed that a string of excuses ran in her head.

Then she observed herself coming up with thoughts that were finding fault with her friend. What was this!

Oh my, our heroine was worming out of settling down to accepting responsibility and making this “blip” ok.  She was deflecting the bad feeling that might arise about her oversight and instead mentally turned to “blame” on another.

“Wait a minute!” Thought K, “I want to soften and make it all ok.”

And then she got clear. “ Accepting what happened was the way to go. I see now this incident is so minor!”

Meanwhile, a short time later, Karla received an email from the friend to whom the favor had been proffered that could not be more forgiving and gracious. What a joy that the friend was not at all offended and flowed with kind acceptance.

Yes Readers these circumstance are so inconsequential perhaps it is hard to relate. Would someone really get exercised or such a small transgression? Such an incident does illustrate the mechanism that operates when more serious “mistakes” occur.

Those who face self-blame know that it stings for any size blip.

At one time inside K prided herself that following through on situations like this were what constituted her goodness. made her a good person. If she did not, then.. then,…. She showed herself to be less “good”

But real self-worth is not so shallow or fragile. K wanted to sing out to the world—“Hey! We are all good anyway! We are composed of Goodness and We beam it out more when we focus on GOOD”

Is it a joy to follow through on doing a favor for a friend? Yes it is. And our self-image and knowing of Good allows us to flow with life and accept some pot holes on the way.

Is it valuable to notice what we are thinking as we breathe in and out? Yes it is! We have so much power to wield to shape our lives!

Benefit from Depressed Interlude

No one prefers to feel depressed, sad or lacking in vitality. Those of us who have at times blamed ourselves might call ourselves an unkind name for dipping into emotional states such as that. Would such a habit lean toward calling ourselves a loser when we experience feelings of a down in the dumps state of being.

Wait a minute! Don’t we recall that experiencing what we do not prefer turns our attention to what we DO WANT? Yes! Do we benefit from reaching for feeling better bit by bit? Of course!

Glance on the Camino, 9 x 12, 2014
Glance on the Camino, 9 x 12, SOLD

Over the years Diane often offered kind, soothing words to those in need of support. She followed teachings to become stronger as a person and regularly focused toward greater optimism.

At a recent juncture as a human life might unfold, dear Diane found herself not with the usual spring in her step.

Yes, this star did recall that she habitually felt livelier and more creative. Each day she did begin by reaching for the best feeling she could find. D listened to uplifting teachings and breathed it in.

Not long before this chapter, this heroine had regularly visited good friend in her transition process. The weeks passed and the beloved companion did pass away. The winter had been a cold and snowy one. As a priority this protagonist made it ok to be where she was.

Though feeling lower than usual Diane was able to paint and express herself. Focused, this artist did create a satisfying piece as she approached the work bit by bit.

One day a spiritual healer made an important discovery while offering D an energy session. In an important aspect D suffered from a torn connection of spirit to body. The healer asked and got permission to remediate the bond between D’s spirit and body.

The process spanned a few days. Wow what an amazing and positive effect did that healing have!

Very soon Diane felt more vigorous in herself. Yay, this star returned to feeling eager for life and viscerally knew again a wonderful life was unfolding with a bright future.

Here is the punchline:

Diane realized with a start that the “getting back on the pony,” the recovery, felt that much sweeter BECAUSE she had experienced some weeks in a “downer” space. Actually, it was fun for her to notice the pay off of that contrasting interlude. Don’t you love when that happens! 😊

Do you have a life passage that benefitted you even when the going through it felt discouraging and unpleasant at the time? Please share. We all will feel uplifted and connected!

Peace Through Clearing Our Own Fear

We are hearing about outbreak of violent forces. Many of us are finding ourselves upset by all this exposure.

So many of us are reacting; some realize how much these circumstances are triggering our own fear.

Wow! we see outside ourselves situations we very much do not want. We remember we have the power to master our reactions!

Dream Emerging, 24 x 30, Acrylic with Texture on Canvas, $395

On this dear planet, we are all one. Since we are all connected, then getting clearer and stronger within ourselves would help the whole, would it not?

What if we addressed the fears inside ourselves that underly the stress that we see playing out around us?

Therefore, we can take on releasing our own fear and assist the whole. Embodying the peace we want to see, we can actualize more of what we want.

Lila’s approach

Lila had spent a lot of her life stressed out. When she took on becoming calmer, less reactive inside, she began by noticing what she enjoyed around her.

She started to practice going through her day looking for what went well, expecting and finding it. Wow there was quite a bit to notice! Our star got more experience with feeling secure and happy.

Lila has flowers coming up in her garden. Spring is starting. Look there are some tete-a-tete daffodils, bright yellow together in a cluster! Oh, and look there are Lenten rose blooming white and dark pink.

Our heroine found that when she felt better more of the time, she then could more easily discern when she was afraid.

To address our fear, we have to recognize it. And we want to create more capacity to pivot to the alternative: clarity, calm and fun.

When we feel more peace within ourselves, we have clearer perspective with which to perceive unrest and to transmute it within – we can feel calm when the proverbial chickens are running around with their heads cut off.

Tabby’s approach

What did Tabby do to feel better? She had always wanted to paint. In her childhood more than one of her teachers told her she created messes in art time and that she could not draw.

As a result she felt ashamed of her expression, put herself down in her head. She felt she must not do art at risk of humiliation. Years went by.

As this dear woman began appreciating what noticed in her life, she felt better and better.

With encouragement she decided to risk some playing around with paint.

Oh gosh, Tabby loved it! And then she started to get compliments on her pieces. More good feeling flowed.

As the weeks and months unfolded, T felt more confident and had more resilience for transmuting fearful scenarios.

Do you have an account to offer about how you recovered from a fear? When we hear of such successes, we bolster so many around us.

Staying Loose, Trust Life

We notice that life produces all kinds of stimulation. Can we stay loose, can we trust Life, “roll with the punches,” can we “take it in stride,” keep our balance and look for what we can enjoy? These are forms of having faith. Yes we can! 😊

A Recent Story

Evolving Selves IV, 24 x 30

Maria owned a stereo system circa 2000.

The cd component had time when it functioned poorly, e.g. the drawer did not go in immediately and for a good while it kept returning to acceptable performance. Then one day the unit ceased to open on command, then it did open and would not close. Maria got it to close and decided this device was giving up the ghost at last. Good service for 22 years!

At first M did feel a temptation, an old habit, to list reasons this was her fault. “She should have anticipated this breakdown. She should have pursued more digital music.” Wow she was grateful these days it was so easy to skip the “self-should upon” tirade.

Our protagonist did have some things to which she could listen digitally but still she owned many CDs and valued them. M wanted to replace that device.

Now what? Maria researched online and learned the price of cd players new and used. Some were available on the craigslist and ebay type venues. Cheapest – around $60. One friend advising her recommended spending no more than $25.

Meanwhile our star realized she could play a cd on her laptop. Further, she observed how rarely she actually did not want to play a compact disk that often.

Off she ventured and found a selection at Salvation Army, got some advice her selection, spent $13 and brought it home. M discovered she had bought a unit that did not fit into the stereo cabinet she had. Oops.

In her life our heroine really leaned on help from more knowledgeable friends and family for tasks like hooking up this kind of thing. She reached out.

Along the way, Maria went inside and put this cd situation in perspective. No adrenaline was required here. M thrived without that cd component working; this woman went on with other pursuits, enjoyed herself.

After a bit one of the friends who would help her, an electrical engineer, texted that she could help soon. In addition, it turned out that dear friend could bring over an old cd player when she came to assist, one that would fit in the cabinet. Wow Maria had attracted a solution to her problem as she got her mind off it. Wow again. The engineer arrived and within a half hour all worked well, install job done! So easy!

Please take away this: when we can chill out with a “problem,” the Universe will help us solve it. Stay loose; trust your life!

Positive Spins

We have all heard the expression, “Make the best of things.” Have you been playing around with that? Getting some practice?

It is one of those great ideas. When we try it out, we can tune viscerally into the pay off. Seriously, let’s tune into the experience of looking for the good beyond just the idea.

Some Examples

Opening, 24 x 30, SOLD
  1. Mary Lou

Mary Lou lived with a man for 25 years. They shared a lot of good experiences, grew tremendously. Each got to express and develop some talents. They cared for one another.

May Lou’s partner wanted more variety and adventure. He felt stale in his life. And he took bold moves, wanted independence, wanted to be bought out of the house and to go his own way.

Mary Lou resisted it at first, gave him plenty of time. ML Made the case for staying together. And then one day she understood she had to let go. And off he went.

At first it did seem like a tragedy. But guess what?

In a year and a half she met a man, got intuitive guidance to move south and started a new life herself.

She made unexpected large profit on selling her house.

When she tells the story, now years later, she recounts it as an amazing unforeseen boon to her life. What an unexpected opportunity!

  1. Gary

Gary lived in the US during the period when many folk stayed at home more of the time than their accustomed routine. For a good while this was uncomfortable and he struggled with missing activities and more companionship.

As some time passed our hero discovered these positive spins for this interlude:

  1. He began walking every day as a way to get fresh air and exercise.
  2. This man placed greater appreciation and value on each phone call he received.
  3. Friends became more precious to him
  4. He became more self-supporting and increased his resilience.
  5. Posts, videos and other online sources of positive news touched him more deeply and he accessed new parts of himself.

When we tell our stories, we can bring a new observer to the exercise. What good can we emphasize to ourselves and our listeners? It feels so good to recognize what flows to us all the time.

Want to share some stories from your life? We would love to hear all those positive spins.

The Images We Create

As we travel through life, we create images from the inputs around us. On one level this is an obvious point. How many of us realize that we can shift our reactions?

We can grow more skillful at noticing the images in our heads and if not towards our upliftment, shifting them. It can feel like what we envision is just “the truth” that is outside us. But no, in fact we create the image, we can choose our perception and related emotional reactions to the stimulus.

Evolving Self, 24 x 30, $595

Some Illustrations

1. Body Image

When Lorraine was a pre-teen, she had enthusiasm for the horse in gymnastics. She loved the forward roll over that piece of equipment.

One day she went over and landed with a plop. She does not remember what the teacher who was spotting said but she never used that piece again.

In her mind she was majorly overweight, not athletic, awkward and in all sports, hopeless. With that self- image she had no confidence, felt shamed and went off back to her studies where she excelled.

If she had had an inner picture of a resilient young woman, a bit plumb perhaps, but loaded with potential for building skills, she would have been more likely to persist.

2. Lyme disease

Some contract Lyme disease and read about the numerous symptoms and ill effects. There are those who get frightened by all the negative possibilities and start to picture their body with those reactions.

Jalmina refused to read all that. After a few weeks of experiencing various discomforts, one morning in a meditation she received a prayer. It went like this:

The Source Energy that Aligned the Planets and Keeps them in their Orbit

The Divine Power that Infuses Life into Every Leaf on Every Tree

The Force that Creates Every Creature that Walks this Earth

That Force Courses through MY veins,

Is that Force of Good daunted by some nasty (lyme) spirochetes Ha!

In her quiet time, when she said this (usually) aloud, our heroine would feel a rush of fresh energy even when fatigued.

Though feeling low energy and a bit depressed, the power of this image was visceral!

3. Difficulty in Walking

Rochelle experienced periodic swelling in her legs and during the worst of the episode walked with irregular gait. When it was not an undue strain, still she walked for her exercise.

What did she hold in her mind while trekking along? She envisioned herself at ease, confident, taking strides that were playful, even experimenting with a strut or dance steps.

She could call up lively and reach for feeling as good as she can. Appreciating the sunshine.

Did that image eliminate the condition in two days? No it did not. However, she did enjoy her time as her body healed and in several weeks with some supplements and herbal treatments she returned to normal.

The image she held kept her feeling upbeat. Therefore the suffering from this condition was dramatically reduced and its duration less relevant.

Was this helpful? Do you feel inspired to pay more attention to images you generate? Please comment with thoughts, questions, stories. We grow together.
