Soothe Self and Rebalance

What shall we do when we find ourselves feeling hurt by another’s comments? Like when another person cuts us off, steals the stage and draws the group’s attention to themselves. When that happens, we can soothe ourselves, rebalance and let it go. And maybe the Universe assists more than we anticipated. Read about that here:

The Incident

Light on the Path, 24 x 30, $595

Marcy was attending a certain spiritual group regularly. She relished participating in the discussion portion of the meeting, an opportunity for each attending to process his or her thinking on the session’s lecture and how to apply it to daily living.

One woman, Ramsey, was sharing her frustration with a change she wanted to make. Marcy had experienced a desire for something similar, had done inner work to prepare for that change and succeeded. M enthusiastically wanted to share her experience. With care she spoke in the group wanting not only to convey her “what happened” but also to create a compassionate and supportive vibration in her delivery.

In the process of her sharing, another member wanted to “adjust” something she had said. M made a comment to discourage him, and he continued anyway.  Outwardly, our star did not protest. Inside M felt very disheartened that her point was lost. With that, the tone and mood she had wanted to create (in order to assist Ramsey) was altered.

Our star felt wounded and angry. She flowed along for the remainder of the gathering. Then she took a breather from that group as she put focus on rebalancing.

Soothing Process

As she sat with herself, Marcy recognized she had been tense in her life. Having taken on a special project for a few months that challenged her, she had been reaching for a new level of confidence. Yes she had felt some “off kilter” that comes with venturing beyond her comfort zone.

This dear woman told herself:

“That person who spoke meant no harm. He just wanted to express himself.”

“I have much to contribute: I have and I will again.”

“My future is bright.”

“I tune to Forces of Good right now.”

“I am fine here and now.”

Taking the time she needed, Marcy flowed with her process and eventually got back to attending those meetings, grounded and happy. She had let go of all that. This heroine had rebalanced. AHHH

More Satisfaction

After another little while, one day at a meeting she and Ramsey were standing around the hot drinks area chatting. One thing led to another and then M found herself telling the incident in her life that paralleled what Ramsey was going through. This time Marcy was able to deliver her message in a soothing, compassionate and upbeat tone.

“It was ok to relax into her process, to trust that what she needs will be provided.

It was ok to focus on good and allow the process to unfold.”

As it was time to part, Ramsey shared that she had never heard that story before. Her face changed, she felt lighter and more optimistic.

Marcy took a moment to realize this gift. She had a second chance to help. She felt satisfied and happy. Spirit had handled it! Miraculous unfolding.

Do you have some techniques you use to rebalance?

Do you have a story of second chances and success?

Please share! Helps us all to know miracles easily pop!

A Flow of Miracles

We can attract what we want more easily, when we feel as though we already have it. As we feel clear and inspired, more and more we see Good everywhere around us with this focused perceptive lens.

The Flow of Miracles

Bright Future II, 24 x 30, $595

In the last week, Jenna listened to a recording where Abraham was encouraging listeners to speak of what was going well and practice remaining focused on that.  “Oh,” thought Jenna, “I can definitely up my game in that area. I have been paying way too much attention to what I see in life that I don’t want. I will notice more at what I look and then review what has already come to me.”

In just a few days J started seeing things show up for her.

  1. Jenna had bought walking sticks for more self support on mountain trails. Her friend had recommended them, helped her fix the height and took a first hike with her. On the second walk, a man came up behind the two of them on the path also with hiking poles. The man showed Jenna how to use the straps to increase the support she got. (The friend had hesitated to offer that tip because someone else resisted that information.) When the friend apologized, Jenna said, “Well I got the key data anyway—delivered by serendipity! “
  2. Our star attracted two new yoga students and it turned out both could come only on a very part time basis. Hey J wanted a full time new student. In antoher day into her inbox pops a message of someone she knows who wants to join the class!
  3. Our heroine was given a lovely birthday dinner by a friend. As they toured the friend’s garden that day, Jenna saw a healthy sage plant and declared that hers had not made it. About a week later, J was working in her yard. The way she was working had her walk toward her garden from an unusual direction. There growing out of the side of a bin where she put weeds to be composted was a sage plant. “OMG,” thought J, “That clever sage plant had thrived in a totally unexpected way. I DO have a sage plant!”
  4. The protagonist wanted another audiobook from the library service. She was curious to find something new, a book that would entertain her in a new way. During the browsing, J spied a title that caught her attention, Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce. What a find! This dear woman enjoyed the story from early in the pages and delighted in the 12 hours of listening involved. This novel contained many spiritual lessons and showed the reader what it is like to live in the moment, grow from experiences and open the heart in unconditional love. What a gift of a discovery!
  5. Jenna watches youtube on her smart tv in lieu of receiving a broadcast station or cable tv. In this account that evening she was roaming for something that tickled her fancy. Ok she searched for free movies with Sandra Bullock. Up came a few.  One caught her eye and onto it J clicked. “Where did you go, Bernadette?”  She had never heard of that movie. Well that movie had nothing to do with Sandra Bullock. But, what a good time she had watching this flick. It featured a highly intelligent and talented woman who was unhappy and causing some trouble. In finding her way the star found an outlet for her genius, her next big project and all the characters cheer her on. Again, what a totally unexpected gift!

Believe it or not, all these situations showed up in about 5 days after deciding to notice the Good in life. Want to run an experiment!

What a gift to ourselves! Please report in and share all that good stuff pouring in, around and through!

How Precious is Our Ability to Focus

When we are awake to the power of our focus, we wield an awesome power! Yes!

We imagine, conjure, and we master this ability. The mastery involves both enjoying the flow of creation and also pausing when the inspiration momentarily wanes. In that case, we switch where we look to get a reboot and rest.

Fertile Dreams, 24 x 30, $525

Do you recall how Leonardo da Vinci would address it (as in How to Think like Leonardo da Vinci[1])? If the solution was not flowing easily, he recommended taking the time to go juggle for awhile. Allow one’s mind to concentrate on that activity a bit. Rest but actively engage elsewhere.

Then, we allow ourselves to receive a solution.

In practice, we can take advantage of the magic to this approach by substituting another focus for juggling. When we experiment with a distraction and fill ourselves with some play and appreciation of life, the process will produce results.

Change Where You Look

Example #1

Last night Alan woke with a bad dream. He attempted to return to slumber but he found himself disturbed by the emotions of those images in his sleep.

What to do? His “trick”: change his focus. He arose went down to his computer and read his email. The man found stimulation of a fond memory and happiness of new prospect of connection.

His mind was soothed and then he laid down again. With his hands he offered himself some Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help—found himself drifting off and then slept another few hours. Yes! He exercised skill in shifting his attention.

Example #2

Don reminisced about a brother-in-law, Carlos, from whom he’s been distanced by a divorce. That individual and he had become friends and shared art, gardening, and personal growth as some of their common interests.

Carlos’s birthday came about a week ahead of Don’s and Don remembered. He went to jot off a celebratory note to C with a light spirit. Part way through D realized he had forgotten the names of Carlo’s sons.

Don went to review past emails; he sat and struggled to recall those appellations. No. He felt stuck. Onward he went in the greeting and wished well to the sons generically.

Our hero knew the magic of shifting focus. He went on with some quiet time, putting attention on thoughts like Ernest Holmes says, “I know and understand that Good Alone is Real.”[2]

He breathed and felt good.

A bit later, Don looked again at past emails which might contain the names of C’s children. Know what?  This time with his fresh perception, he found them easily: Evan and Aidan.

There are so many examples—wow! we use our focus all day long. Let’s raise our awareness of how we use it. We want to use our time more effectively, stay in the flow of life and enjoy more moments of our day.

Do you have illustrations of how you have wielded your focus to your benefit? Please comment and show us how!

Allowing Solutions to Come

Isn’t it great that the Forces of Good are all around us all of the time! As we become more tuned to this benign environment, we become more receptive to what we need and thereby reap tremendous benefits, e.g., ease, balance, fun and productivity.

When we find ourselves “trying hard” to solve a problem, we can bring ourselves assistance by easing up on that accelerator. Coast for a bit.

Flowers I, 16 x 20, acrylic on canvas

In that resting, we create a space where we can attract and receive solutions.

Illustration

Mandy now had charge of caring for the house. The living-with partner left to pursue in his life in a new direction. Among the adjustments M had to learn how to get the lawn mowed.

The Ex had stored the lawnmower in the basement, using planks as a ramp to pull out the machine and put it back.  This approach was beyond the strength of our star.

She wondered what to do? Some acquainted with her declared that she needed a shed in which to store the device. Developing that possibility, Mandy learned that the shed would need siting and a foundation, and cost many hundreds of dollars. No there was not an obvious spot for this building, might require tree removal and landscape leveling. Complications, expenses—oh my!

She got some help getting the lawnmower out of the basement, got it oiled, got the lawn mowed. Then she rested.

Our heroine put that issue aside. M had many other chores, had errands, worked full time and cooked her food.

A dear friend visited and brought her husband. He heard the situation and commented off the top of his head, “Throw a tarp over it.”

Mandy received her solution. She laughed with delight. Such an easy approach after all the effort the shed idea involved. To this dear woman it felt like a miracle.

Got stories that validate the value of letting it come to you, flowing with ease? Please share them.

We Master Our Perceptive Lens

We wield tremendous power in our lives as we take more and more charge of how we see things. Gosh, it sounds so simple. Most certainly, we can easily do this when we hold this intention: “I want to be awake in this moment!”

Reaching back 46 years, a man named William Irwin Thompson wrote in Evil and World Order this stimulating observation,

Sea Green Glory, 24 x 30, SOLD

“We are like flies crawling across the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  We cannot see what angels and gods lie underneath the threshold of our perceptions. We do not live in reality; we live in our own paradigms, our habitual perceptions, our illusions, the illusions we share through the culture we call reality, but the true… reality of our conditions is invisible to us. “[1]

An Example Provides More Clarity

Laney visited her cousin and in an evening of looking at a collection of his wife’s photos, that dear woman, Genevieve, got offended by Laney’s demeanor. Genevieve interpreted L’s lack of spoken appreciation as a criticism, and G conveyed her feelings of hurt and disrespect.

L aspired to explain herself and make amends. During that stay G was not open to shifting, and she held herself apart.

Surely, at first Laney was so hurt that G would not soften. As she reviewed how harshly G had spoken to her, L felt deeper resentment and anger.

An outsider might perceived that that this was G’s problem and she had to forgive. But L knew she had the power to shift herself.

Waking up, Laney used the tool of appreciation in a consistent and heartfelt way for the months till the next encounter with G. Each morning L listed as many of G’s positive aspects as she could—and hey—repeating ones from yesterday was fair game 😊.

As our star persisted, she shifted her perceptive lens, Our heroine eradicated any resentments and hurts and placed her focus only on the love she wanted to share. This was her priority.

Laney knew if she wanted love she needed to live in an atmosphere of love.

As goodbye’s were shared at the next visit to G’s, family members spoke of what a good visit it had been. As G hugged L farewell, she whispered in L’s ear, “I love you.”  L’s heart swelled with satisfaction. What great pay off for shifting her mind view to what she most wanted!

What stories have expanded your heart and demonstrated your waking up? Please share them with us!

Persist and Experience Miracles

What wonders await us as we take charge of our thoughts and attitudes, our lives! We can align ourselves with the Force of Good in more and more moments of our day.

What does this mean?

We can uplift our beings, learn how to reach for feeling as good as we can right now.

One Delightful Pay off

Light on the Path, 24 x 30, $595

Erin had been following the Abraham teachings for many years. Very regularly she did face feelings of discouragement or other discomfort and consistently E thought about something she relished, some developments for which she was thankful.

This gal had grown a plant called torenia for a couple of years now. She bought one in the spring from a vendor at the local farmer’s market. On the second year, Erin wondered if any of the tiny sprouts in the pots on her deck could be that torenia which are notorious for sending off seed to grow more plants. None of the small seedlings coming forth turned into that plant.

The torenia seemed not to self-sow that year on her deck.

The next year all the pots on her deck showed many sprouts. Our star took care of them and hoped some would turn into thriving torenia. Eventually after a month or so, E took a photo of the little darlings and sent it off to an expert who knows plants well. He informed her they were baby sycamore trees which start new plants prolifically. “No luck on torenia,” Erin thought.

In the third year she bought another plant and let go of any effort to “self seed” these darlings on her watch.

The season progressed. Our heroine focused her gardening attention elsewhere and enjoyed other blossoms. One day she was filling her buckets to water her garden. As the container filled, Erin gazed around-there, to the right of the water spigot on the ground, a torenia was blooming from a small healthy plant. That dear thing had self sown and flowered into a color Erin had never bought!

It felt like a miracle. Seeing this flower made her so happy.

E had relaxed, let it go, flowed with upbeat mood and got a sweet result. She received a sweet surprise. All Erin did was flow with life while maintaining her spirits.

Do you have a story where you too allowed an unexpected wonder to find you as you persisted in well being?  Please share it with all of us!

More Satisfaction

Oh my! So many of us are vigilant with watching for situations to enrich ourselves financially. On the surface nothing “wrong” with that. We might ask ourselves “Is that the way to get the most satisfaction in the flow?” Let’s be awake to appreciating life and making the most of opportunities for growth!! Let’s be watching daily for ways to have fun!

Example One

Golden One, Diptych 30 x 40, $990

Three people are hanging out on the beach. Ted, an artist, is the boyfriend of Margaret. With them is a friend Zelda. Ted finds out that Zelda is also an artist. He shoots out, “Ya sell much?”  Zelda responds, “What’s it to you?”  Ted’s mind is on the financial rumination. For Zelda she relishes the fun of expressing herself and of sharing that with others in art exhibitions. She batted away a comment that sounded competitive.

Example Two

Rhona has volunteered at the community center in various capacities over the last year. When the annual fundraiser organizer stepped into the job, she asks Rhona if she could handle the decorations for this year. “Sure I can assist with that,” replies R.

Rhona takes on the job, a lone team member, and is provided with a budget for materials.

Our star dives into the task with six months until the event. At first the spaces to beautify  included the auditorium and one other room; then the assignment expanded to many rooms, corridors, and areas outside the facility. This dear woman worked intensely 10 hours most days, creating all kinds of decorations, rising to challenges of all kinds.

In these two quarters of the year, this heroine threw herself into the process: inventing, developing products with a skill and profusion she had never experienced from herself before. Wow her creations were quirky, wonderful and beautiful.  Just the mural for the stage, evocative of a certain well- loved city, required two weeks of intense painting.  That backdrop set the perfect atmosphere for the theme in that room and was widely praised. Wow, this heroine had not ever trained in art of any kind.

Close to the fundraiser date, the center organizers hired someone to create three signs to direct the flow of participants. That individual was paid $600.

“I was stunned,” cried Rhona. “I had worked devotedly for six months and received no compensation at all. Hearing about that payment gave me a sense of how much my work would cost if not volunteered. A whole lot: probably thousands!”

R reported to a friend. The friend asked, “Do you feel like a victim of the center? Did the center take advantage of you?”

They discussed it and here are some important points that emerged: Rhona:

  1. Was not taken advantage of.
  2. Discovered an activity she adores and at which she excels.

“I have found myself!” she declares.

3.   Gained much self-esteem and confidence.

  • Is being sought out for help in designs and adornment for other catered events.
  • Recognizes the gift that this opportunity provided to her self-development.

Isn’t it great that Rhona took a chance volunteering to decorate for the annual fund raising!

Do you have accounts from your life where you passed up immediate financial gain for more satisfaction over time? Please report in! We love it!

We are awake to how we regard and assess situations of our lives.

So many of us have absorbed the opinions and conditioning of the culture around us and that flows out of us without any pause. Many might make financial gain a very high priority. Does that focus always produce results for us?

Finding Things Revisited

When we master our emotional reactions to situations of our lives, we experience some pleasing rewards on so many fronts. Off the bat it might not come to mind that finding items we mislay in life represents one of the pay offs.

“Where the heck is that blankety blank?”

Following Impulse, 24 x 30, Acrylic with Texture, $525

When we cannot find some object wanted, best first to check our attitude. Really?

Yes indeed. We will experience so much more ease in locating what we want when we calm ourselves. Let’s practice knowing that we are fine whether we find it or not.

For Example

Lola had had one birthday party about ten years ago where she was showered with appreciation from the participants. A scribe was appointed to record all this praise on one card, made available for that purpose.

L knew in the future she would enjoy reviewing those compliments to lift her spirits and inspire her in a variety of ways. Indeed, she had looked at it many times over the years.

This story begins when our star wanted to conduct such a perusal again—and L could not find it.

At earlier stages of her growth Lola might have gotten quite upset. She would rail against herself cursing her habits of poor organization, calling herself unkind names and hurling all manner of shame because she could not find that card immediately.

Now though our heroine had more savvy in the ways of Universal Laws and self-mastery.  She skipped the self-flagellation part. Instead, she reminded herself how many times she could not discover an item on a dime and then when more relaxed did locate it. L knew she loved this list of praise, valued it and would take care of it.

When she sat quietly, she had a glimpse of putting it somewhere safe—but at first those clues did not pan out.

She proceeded to check files of correspondence and memorabilia in several places. No luck.

Meanwhile, she started to enjoy perusing all this stuff she had stored. One of the things she found was a file with birthday cards from a celebration 20 years ago where friends listed qualities each observed at that time.

“Hey,” she realized, “I am getting the boost to my self esteem I wanted. I thought I needed this other card but look I am filling my well already! Even less urgency than I had thought to find this lost thing.”

And the relaxed attitude works wonders.

The next day Lola’s glimpse as to where she had stored it expanded. She looked at a box on her shelf (she had already looked at it briskly early on), took it down, went through the first chunk more slowly, and there it was. L had sensed she popped into somewhere convenient and safe—she had!

Do you have a report where you experienced how something was found with ease when sought with ease? Please share!

Growth, Forgiveness, Perseverance

Awakening, we become aware when we fall short of the ideals of human behavior. We discover deeply and long held habits of thought which inhibit the generous and good feelings we prefer to exhibit.

These emotions of hurt, jealous, resentment, anger and more feel compelling. Can we release this stuff on a dime as we feel them? Some of our material may not leave with the first pass of awareness. We can and do persist.

Noticing the Pattern

Sea Marsh I, 16 x 20, $475

Cindy Lou aspires to releasing her hurts as quickly as she can. CL noticed though she knows how to shift, this time she allowed it more slowly than on easier topics.  This woman would rather feel loving and be having fun!

In the early sting of the reaction, our star reviewed “what happened”.  In dating, a man on whom our heroine was focused, turned out to be writing to another woman. His focus was not exclusively on her!

To begin using her power, CL distracted herself. The goal is to turn her attention to what she appreciates and to what lifts her mood.

In this story, Cindy Lou did not readily release this particular disturbance. Yes, she had the words intellectually to make it ok and could notice that her habits were running strong.

But, inside herself she could recognize strong emotions running. An inner voice: “I want to get my way! I feel humiliated and rejected! That other person is to blame!

At first, several like- minded friends offered to help with her reframing. Cindy heroine closed off their input.

In her head boomed, “Shut up and leave me alone. GRRR.”

In the second day a back ache showed up and did not easily clear up during the day.

A Gradual Turnaround

On the third day, our protagonist relaxed her thinking and let in more air and light into her mood.

Cindy L”s dear body produced quite an upset stomach.

Our heroine listened to a podcast by an experienced leader of A Course in Miracles.

Ahhh, the speaker reminded this dear one that she controlled her life with the thoughts she entertained. As she went about her morning ablutions, she let in the realization that she had gotten stubborn in her defense of her hurt reaction, making “out there” more powerful than “in here.” Her drama involved her dreams of affectionate dating and right now what she imagined was not happening.

Oh my, CL took responsibility for her stepping on a landmine of past hurt. “Ok,” she admitted, “I feel stubborn about feeling hurt and wronged.”

To find more ease she crooned to herself, “Hey Angel Pie, I am releasing another layer of sludgy feelings from the past. This is so understandable. You remain loveable in feeling the past and in feeling caught in it for a few days.”

On day four CL allowed herself more relief from a focus on Forgiveness, for both the date and herself.

Take Away

In shifting habits, we will notice and shift over and over again.

In some instances, we will require more perseverance than at others.

Keep going when it feels “hard”.

By and by we find release, forgiveness and more strength.

Please share a story that resonates with this post. You inspire us all!

Pause before Reacting

We can learn to go with the flow. When we hear news that disturbs us, we can use our personal power, exercise mastery over ourselves. Instead of railing against, reacting in anger or defensiveness, we can pause and ask Source for help. We can feel as though things have already gone our way and trust life.

How It Could Go

Hidden Tunnel, 12 x 16, $325

Cathe and Marcy were friends who were running a small project together. They each had students in separate classes, each required equipment that they shared.

The fall season was approaching and Cathe expected some new women interested in learning. Marcy was putting her focus on efforts in antoher location.

Marcy informed Cathe on email that she had designated the majority of the equipment for her use only. In past years the two shared the equipment so that all the classes were covered.

Cathe read this missive feeling tired after a long day filled with other challenges. On first reading C felt hurt, angry and discouraged. Feeling her fatigue and reaction, our star knew she would not respond to M that evening.

Cathe’s approach to thinking it over included an effort to see Marcy’s viewpoint. C did not want to have a power struggle or argue. How could they find a win win?

The Powerful Pause

That night dear Cathe prayed to Source Energy that Marcy would take time to see both sides and allow them to find a better solution with equipment for both of them. Then C let it go, felt good again, went on with her life.

A couple days later Marcy initiated a conversation with Cathe.

Marcy asked C if she had received the note about the what M needed.

“Yes,” Cathe said, “I don’t understand it. I do intend to add some additional students so that I can bring enough income to cover my share of the rent for the space. To do that, I need sufficient equipment.”

A Solution Pops

They went back and forth a bit. After explaining why she needs a big chunk of the supplies for herself, Marcy conceded that she does have extra at home and could bring them in to C to use.

There it was – a win win emerged! Our heroine enthusiastically applauded that idea and thanked her.

Cathe had gotten what she wanted without any big arguments or fuss. By getting clear what she wanted, asking Source for help, and not dwelling on the situation.

(Mission statement here).
