Some of us are awake to how we feel and then reach for feeling as good as we can in each moment. At times we may become frightened and start down the path of more negative emotion.
Let’s make that ok. We encounter aspects of ourselves with resistance and then we can make changes to become freer.
This represents a process of growing. By and by, we come around to feeling better and better again with some satisfying results.
Story to Illustrate
Part I
Anita has felt happy a lot in her life especially since she began putting focus on feeling as good as she can moment to moment. Recently, in collaboration with a Naturopath, A decided to consult a regular doctor to obtain more information on how her body was doing, to get some diagnostic tests. The naturopath wanted further insight to assist the healing of her swollen ankle.
Our star started to receive test results and hear the interpretations from this physician. When the doctor recommended an invasive procedure involving two days of inconvenient and unwanted preparation, Anita reacted.
She got frightened and horrified as she listened to what was required for this procedure. Many of the individuals with whom she discussed the procedure were also afraid. That feedback triggered more fear as she listened. (Feel afraid, discuss it, get more fear.) Mixed in with her reaction, she felt disappointed in herself that this was so upsetting.
On the other hand, part of her felt this much distress was too high a price and that the medical system had been turned loose looking for hidden unwanted disease.
Anita wanted: 1) to follow the adage “Don’t fix what is not broken,” 2) to expend energy on creative actions that feel good, and 3) to bask in Well Being.
Part II
The heroine had a day of upset. Then the next morning her online feed sent her a video of a cat and friends. The cat had kittens and lay with them in a cozy cat bed. Then one at a time animal friends came by: a hen, a rabbit, a puppy. Each visitor sat with the new family, nuzzled a bit. Some laid down to nap companionably.
Anita felt moved to tears. She heard a voice in her head “This is real life” with each player offered love sweetly. Wow she felt relief and a boost of good feeling.
That night her landline rang. This dear woman rarely answered that phone but this time she felt called to it. On the line was a woman who lived across the country with whom she had not spoken in 7 years. During the long phone call that friend shared how she had skipped taking that test and had been just fine. A soaked up that sign of Well Being and proffered support.
Part III
During the night that followed that visit to the doctor, Anita experienced insomnia. She had two instances when she limped to the bathroom for a nighttime pee. Her legs had some unusual energy running through them.
The next morning she no longer had a swollen ankle. She walked upright and balanced. The following day Anita identified that her knee above the affected ankle now was feeling warm.
Therefore, the reason for the trip to the doctor was already shifting. In a couple of weeks Anita enjoyed a session with a remote healer with whom she had had many valuable sessions over years. The healer offered “treatment” and again Anita felt a good chunk more balanced.
Part IV
During these weeks, the protagonist cycled through bouts of distress. But in having this much discomfort Anita “got a grip”: she realized she could focus her thoughts with greater mastery. Many days during this period, A listened to a long recording of Emmet Fox on her daily walks. The main message: put thoughts of Good first. Think Faith as much as she could.
Part V
As the star felt stronger and happier, A uplifted that feeling of being disappointed in herself. She had both gained confidence and reminded herself that these passages were fueling her growth.
So much showed up to assist her! As she felt more grounded in Well Being, more signs of Good showed up for her.
An important realization: even as Anita felt so frightened, tense and miserable, Well Being was still running and operating. The sun still shines behind the clouds. Duh! Good to keep in mind!!
