Living in the Stream of Yes

Our Warm Greetings Matter

We can make our days brighter by illuminating the contact with others. What does that mean? Making a warm comment to the staff checking us out in the grocery or pharmacy line. Sending a wave to the stranger we pass on the walking trail.

What value do we contribute? These offerings count—we warm both ourselves and those around us. And we too love to receive these friendly gestures. Our kindness counts tremendously.

The Mailman

Larry, the mailman, gave Bonnie a wide smile when they caught one another’s eye. For several years Bonnie enjoyed the friendliness of her mail carrier.

At first Bonnie did not realize the impact of the man in the mail truck with his consistent smile and wave. She would see him on her walks through the neighborhood.

Somehow our star knew this was not a man “into her” in a wannabee boyfriend way nor in a “stalking” way. The dear man was his sharing his love of life—this enriched her day.

As time passed, occasionally when on a slower neighborhood street, Lawrence would pull over to share a quick “isn’t it a lovely day” or “how’re doin’?”  Bonnie enjoyed the exchange of light hearted remarks.

B almost took this gift for granted. One day Bonnie read in the local online bulletin board that this carrier was going to be leaving the USPS, retiring. Oh! The heroine said to herself. “What a loss!”

Awakening, our protagonist realized she wanted to offer him appreciation. The thought was not so much for the delivery of the mail. (So many on the bulletin board complain bitterly about mail delivery but hers was mostly fine.) B wanted to thank him for that effort to beam his good vibration. Such a rare and heart felt expression that brightened her day at each encounter.

The notice said his last day was very soon. How would B connect with him? Forces of Good handled that.

On the afternoon of his last day Bonnie happened to look out her front window near her keyboard to view a mail truck parked in front of her house, Lawrence there chatting with a neighbor. Out she went to grab the moment.

As the Universe flowed, Lawrence’s truck had broken down right in front of her house at her mailbox. (Is that a miracle or what?) B beamed at him as she reported how grateful she was for his big smile when he spotted her.

He reported how for the last two years he had reached for getting the locals their mail. His quest required him to work  long 12-hour days for no overtime beyond his paid 8 hour duty. Now feeling tired, he looked forward to more relaxed pace by retiring.

Enjoying the conversation, Lawrence mentioned that he might see B again because he and his wife planned to attend the free concerts in the nearby city.

Inspiration

The next week Bonnie went to fetch a package that the new mail carrier had just placed on her stoop. B poked her head out to look at the driver, dead pan no greeting.

Wow what a difference! That experience was like a clunk on the head for our protagonist. By receiving the generous life spirit of the mailman, our star made the connection that her smiles, waves and “Hi There’s” lifted the people in her world.

For her this sharing came easily. Now she was more awake to how important it was to beam her joie de vivre as she went through her day. The Power of Her Presence affected this world!

Do you want to share the incidents when you have received such greetings or sent them? The big grin that someone suicidal sees that changes the course of their life. Or the simple ones we can easily take for granted both receiving and offering. Please comment.
We all benefit by more connection.
