We are on the path to seeing increasing Good, our perceptive lens clearing out small, self-deprecating, and limiting habits of thought. What can flow to us as we bring in a light-hearted and loving state might be beyond even what we have imagined. Read on for an example.
Background
Anneke attended a class run by Wilma about promoting business on social media. As the class ended, Wilma volunteered to spend some special time with Anneke. Both enjoyed the lively discussion and the synergy of exchange.
A few weeks later, Wilma invited Anneke to speak at a conference W was organizing. Thrilled at the opportunity A signed on, prepared extensively and presented months later as first on the event’s program.
The Incident
A week after the conference Wilma circulated evaluation materials to participants. W assembled the results and sent relevant question results with commentary to each speaker. Reading this email Anneke felt stung and betrayed. In that moment A thought that W took the side of a few negative commentators.
Our star called a friend, kept breathing. Not wanting to push against what she did not want (thereby making more of it), she remained silent. A did her best to uplift herself and move on.
The time for the same conference next year rolled around and unsurprisingly to Anneke, Wilma did not contact her to participate. As it happens that second conference was among the thousands of events cancelled due to the worldwide shutdown.
Most of two years later, Wilma made a friendly comment to something this dear protagonist posted on Facebook. A thought, “Wow that was such a friendly and kind statement! Let me respond.” And our heroine wrote a private message to W, briefly stating she had been hurt. Now she wanted to reinforce how much she appreciated the speaking opportunity, all the encouraging and kind support W offered during the preparation. Then A gave W an offer of a complimentary session to promote positive vibes.
Wilma accepted that invitation readily and with enthusiasm. The two agreed on a day and time.
Point of the Story
The session got off to a good start with both parties reporting that each looked for positives in this time focused at home and found them. These women realized putting attention on appreciation and gratitude was serving them well. Each was organizing groups online for support and had a good time exchanging experiences and lessons learned.
In the middle of things, Wilma shared a few sentences that shocked our heroine.
“From the beginning when I was first meeting you, I was struck by your enthusiasm and vitality. So unusual!
In each encounter I have so admired those qualities in you and wanted to emulate you. You are so inspiring!”
Wow Anneke had no idea Wilma felt that way. A had reacted impulsively and taken personal offense from a few words in an email two years ago. This woman was so appreciative that she had done inner work to let go of that ego bruise, then respond to Wilma’s kind words on Facebook.
Receiving this praise felt great and if she had not cleared her own insides, the distorted opinion would have continued.
What a lesson! Since Anneke allowed herself to experience that goodwill, she could see the kindness of W’s connecting Facebook comment and then easily relax into the flow of Good to her!
Isn’t this worth noticing?
