When I was working in downtown Boston, I figured balance was expendable– I did not have time for it. At one point I was gifted with a private demonstration of Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) Self Help, placing hands on my own body. Though I became deeply relaxed, I discounted it because I was “too busy”.
If you are wondering what Jin Shin Jyutsu is, dear reader, I call your attention to the pages on it at www.streamofyes.com .
Later in my story I did take the time to learn Jin Shin Jyutsu due to an uncomfortable condition, a “project”, with my knee. In my first JSJ training I had strong experience. There, I realized the important of breaking the cycle of racing around and feeling very stressed and fatigued, pushing to get things done. Now I credit the daily practicing of JSJ with my relative good health for nearly thirty years.
With Jin Shin Jyutsu we address our wholeness- body, mind, spirit– with each hand position. We soothe ourselves from the five “attitudes” ( as JSJ calls them): worry, fear, anger, sadness, and trying to ( too much effort and pretense). With the soothing of the attitudes we come to a state the founder of JSJ Mary Burmeister calls “no thing” aka balance and contentment.
For this blog entry I offer readers a method to “harmonize” your being, bring it into balance, while driving to work you can even do it if there are passengers of various ages in your car! You put both hands on the steering wheel to drive. As you hold the wheel, place the pad of your thumb on the finger nail of the first, the index finger. Stay in that position for about two minutes. You can do it longer if you prefer. Then you move to middle finger nail, pad of the thumb on middle finger. Again hold two minutes.
You may do both hands at once or one at a time. Go through all five fingers. To do your thumb, put the pad of one of the other fingers on its nail ( I use the index finger usually.)
Voila! I recommend experimenting with this procedure. How do you feel after you do it? I often feel more relaxed and balanced, mind clearer, emotions calmer.
From now until June 15, 2013 I am offering an online special: a complimentary half hour JSJ session to those who email me and ask. Please write to jpearl@streamofyes.com subject : free session.
If you have questions or comments, please write me. I love to respond.
