My friend was feeling really caught up in self protectiveness, fear and guilt. She and I were in a conversation with associates from an office suite. They were angry, and she was afraid that she had done something “wrong”. That evening I helped her write a letter to explain our actions, and she felt some support.
After the business portion of the call was finished, I asked her about her plans for her small business. Plans are afoot for her to interact with Oprah and see if she can attract some publicity. She dreams of an endorsement for her product, a very valuable and desirable event.
Tied in, she has been greatly enjoying playing the song Happy by Pharrell Williams and wants to connect the song with one of her products whose byline is about happy and with the Oprah magazine. When she shared about this, her voice pinged with delight and excitement. In a few moments we were ready to end the call. She said, “Oh my God I feel good again. Focusing on what I want worked so beautifully just now to change my mood for the better. ”
Of course those of us who practice feeling good, who practice shifting our attention toward appreciation and fun, do get quicker results than those who have not yet nurtured this habit. This call was such a clear example of getting one’s mind on what we want and how our emotions follow easily the shift in focus.
