I painted this piece experimenting with rendering landscape.
Out from my imagination emerged this view of a city across water. In the course of painting this, I got stuck and was very unsatisfied with the composition.
Rescue came in the form of an art-loving male friend (whose mother is an
artist) who made the suggestion to lower the sun—that did the trick.
Since I am focusing on more highly inventive, figurative work, I had not planned to show this piece. As I let friends take a peek at it, they encouraged me to put it into shows occasionally. It got good reviews as it hung in one show along with the figurative pieces. Now, it hangs as an ongoing exhibit along with other landscape work at Signature Medical Spa on Berkmar Drive in Charlottesville.
